The "Alliance" fights discrimination against Roma at the local and regional levels, promotes their inclusion and raises awareness of these communities among local and regional authorities.

The Alliance operates under the auspices of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe.

The term “Roma and Travellers” is used at the Council of Europe to encompass the wide diversity of the groups covered by the work of the Council of Europe in this field including Roma, Sinti/Manush, Calé, Kaale, Romanichals, Boyash/Rudari, Balkan Egyptians (Egyptians and Ashkali), Eastern groups (Dom, Lom and Abdal), groups such as Travellers, Yenish, and the populations designated under the administrative term “Gens du voyage”, as well as persons who identify themselves as Gypsies.

Colloquy of the French League of Human Rights on Roma Rights

The Alliance participated to a Colloquy of the French League of Human Rights on "Roma Rights", Thursday  12 December 2013, Maison de l'Europe, Paris

 

This Colloquy organised by the French League of Human Rights (LDH), in cooperation with the Maison de l’Europe, entitled "Roma rights: action is possible " was an opportunity to gather local authorities and associations to make an update on the situation of Roma in Europe and France, and address the issue of citizenship. It will favor exchange of European and French experiences to favor Roma inclusion and debate on the position of Roma in societies.

 

The Alliance presented its activities, as well as the Joint Council of Europe/European Commission ROMACT Project which it is supporting since it was launched in October 2013, and its action plan. Other initiatives of the Council of Europe aiming to promote the inclusion of Roma people, including the ROMED programme of intercultural mediation for Roma communities, was also be mentioned.
