The "Alliance" fights discrimination against Roma at the local and regional levels, promotes their inclusion and raises awareness of these communities among local and regional authorities.

The Alliance operates under the auspices of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe.

The term “Roma and Travellers” is used at the Council of Europe to encompass the wide diversity of the groups covered by the work of the Council of Europe in this field including Roma, Sinti/Manush, Calé, Kaale, Romanichals, Boyash/Rudari, Balkan Egyptians (Egyptians and Ashkali), Eastern groups (Dom, Lom and Abdal), groups such as Travellers, Yenish, and the populations designated under the administrative term “Gens du voyage”, as well as persons who identify themselves as Gypsies.

Alliance 1st National Seminar in Serbia, Belgrade, 12 June 2015

On 12th June 2015, the European Alliance of Cities and Regions for Roma Inclusion organises its first National Seminar in Serbia in order to bring together participants, experts, Congress of Local and Regional Authorities’ representatives and stakeholders from all Serbia. This will be the occasion to exchange experiences and know-how, as well as mutual learning of best practices on Roma inclusion issues in Serbia.

Mr Denis Huber, Executive Secretary of the Chamber of Regions and Head of the Department for Cooperation, Administration and External Relations of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities, will take part and will present an update of Alliance activities and take part of the debate.

The Congress will be represented by Congress members Mrs.  Dusica Davidovic, (Serbia, SOC), Mrs. Stojanka Lekic (Serbia, PPE/CCE) and Mr. Fevzija Muric on behalf of Mr Meho Mahmutovic (Serbia, SOC).
