The "Alliance" fights discrimination against Roma at the local and regional levels, promotes their inclusion and raises awareness of these communities among local and regional authorities.

The Alliance operates under the auspices of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe.

The term “Roma and Travellers” is used at the Council of Europe to encompass the wide diversity of the groups covered by the work of the Council of Europe in this field including Roma, Sinti/Manush, Calé, Kaale, Romanichals, Boyash/Rudari, Balkan Egyptians (Egyptians and Ashkali), Eastern groups (Dom, Lom and Abdal), groups such as Travellers, Yenish, and the populations designated under the administrative term “Gens du voyage”, as well as persons who identify themselves as Gypsies.

ROMACT calls for municipalities and intercultural trainers

The programme focussing on the training of local administration launches new calls for transnational cooperation and intercultural trainers

ROMACT, a joint programme between the European Commission and the Council of Europe strengthening the social inclusion capacities of local authorities, launched a new call for submissions for its new transnational cooperation component . The aim of the new component is to assist local authorities in better integrating marginalised people, in particular non-nationals of Roma ethnicity. It notably offers local authorities support for intercultural training of administration employees, for the recruitment of specialised intercultural mediators or for transnational cooperation between municipalities.

 

ROMACT Call for Proposals for Capacity Building and Transnational Cooperation
After a first round in early 2016, a new call has been launched in July 2016. Municipalities interested can apply until 19 September. All relevant information and application files can be found here.

 

Call for Intercultural Trainers
Furthermore, there is also a call for expert trainers to provide intercultural training to municipal staff participating in the ROMACT Programme’s Capacity Building and Transnational Cooperation component. .  The deadline for applications is 19 August. Detailed information can be found here.
