Call for Nominations - European Roma Spirit Award 2016

Deadline for applications: Sunday, 18 September

ERSA 2016

In June, the Commissioner for Human Rights of the Council of Europe, Nils Muižnieks, visited Slovakia. His visit did not only focus on human rights and their implementation in general but also addressed the pressing issues concerning Roma in Slovakia, such as police violence against Roma, the prevailing discrimination within the education system and problems related to housing.

Following this extensive focus on Roma issues that underlines the significance of the work of all organizations involved in Roma inclusion, the Commissioner highlighted the “European Roma Spirit Award” as an example of good practice. The award is organized by the Association for Culture, Education and Communication and seeks to put a spotlight on those organizations, individuals and municipalities that have contributed to improving the situation of Roma.

One of the categories of the award is "Municipalities and Cities (MAC)", therefore the Alliance taskforce encourages the Alliance participants to apply until 18 September. This is a chance to reward and give recognition to the work of muncipalities and regions for the inlclusion of Roma and Travellers.
