Laura Cana: “Roma can’t get jobs because they are discriminated and marginalized”
During the 28th Congress Session, Laura Cana, Youth Delegate at the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities, talked to us about the situation of Roma in Romania and on issues linked to Roma Youth inclusion. She particularly mentioned the vicious circle of exclusion affecting the situation of Roma in Romania nowadays. Laura points out that Roma can’t get jobs because they are marginalized.
The Youth Delegate also urged to combat stereotypes and discriminatory speeches, especially in the media. The development of a forum to encourage dialogue and mediation between Roma and non-Roma communities is one of her ideas. This would give Roma the opportunity to express their needs and raise their voice. Finally, she insisted on the fundamental place of health issues when it comes to Roma inclusion.
