The "Alliance" fights discrimination against Roma at the local and regional levels, promotes their inclusion and raises awareness of these communities among local and regional authorities.

The Alliance operates under the auspices of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe.

The term “Roma and Travellers” is used at the Council of Europe to encompass the wide diversity of the groups covered by the work of the Council of Europe in this field including Roma, Sinti/Manush, Calé, Kaale, Romanichals, Boyash/Rudari, Balkan Egyptians (Egyptians and Ashkali), Eastern groups (Dom, Lom and Abdal), groups such as Travellers, Yenish, and the populations designated under the administrative term “Gens du voyage”, as well as persons who identify themselves as Gypsies.

Young Roma activists: Call for workshop participants

Workshops on combatting Anti-Gypsyism and supporting Roma Youth participation in Ukraine

The Council of Europe Youth Department is looking for participants for a training course on combating anti-Gypsyism through human rights education and youth participation to be held from 3 to 8 November 2016 in Odessa, Ukraine. Young Roma activists from Belarus, the Republic of Moldova, the Russian Federation, Ukraine and the Baltic states can apply until 16 October.

A second, national training seminar aims at building a strong Roma youth network in Ukraine.

The Alliance Taskforce asks the Alliance participants to spread this call in their networks,especially youth networks. These are important opportunities to learn how to fight anti-Gypsyism and how to empower Roma youth.
