The "Alliance" fights discrimination against Roma at the local and regional levels, promotes their inclusion and raises awareness of these communities among local and regional authorities.

The Alliance operates under the auspices of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe.

The term “Roma and Travellers” is used at the Council of Europe to encompass the wide diversity of the groups covered by the work of the Council of Europe in this field including Roma, Sinti/Manush, Calé, Kaale, Romanichals, Boyash/Rudari, Balkan Egyptians (Egyptians and Ashkali), Eastern groups (Dom, Lom and Abdal), groups such as Travellers, Yenish, and the populations designated under the administrative term “Gens du voyage”, as well as persons who identify themselves as Gypsies.

Deputy Mayor of Uzhgorod Oleksandr BYLAK elected new Chairperson of the Ukrainian Alliance

The Ukrainian Alliance of Cities and Regions for Roma Inclusion has a new chair for the year 2019. Mr Oleksandr BYLAK, Deputy Mayor of the City of Uzhgorod, was selected Chairman of the Ukrainian Alliance during the 2nd official meeting of the Ukrainian Alliance on 26 February 2019 in Lviv. The City of Uzhgorod takes over the chairmanship from the Pereyaslav-Khmelnytsky District State Administration which headed the Alliance in 2018.

During the meeting the Regional Councils of Rivne and Ivano-Frankivs'k and the District Council of Khust joined the Ukrainian Alliance as new members.

The Ukrainian Alliance of Cities and Regions for Roma Inclusion is the European Alliance’s local network of mayors and governors to promote Roma inclusion and fight anti-Gypsyism in Ukraine. It was established in 2017 and counts 12 members from all over Ukraine.
